4 Out of 5 Stars
Aug 24th, 2007 by Andy
To continue with my theme of shopping at Amazon here is a shot of some feedback ratings in their Used and New Merchants area.
Read the second rating. The user, dixit_sanjeev, gives glowing feedback and provides actual information (as opposed to bmckeer’s “Great product!” - which doesn’t really tell us much). But the merchant is given only 4 out of 5 stars. I guess that means that dixit_sanjeev has some pretty high standards - which is fine - but it shows how different people have different expectations and criteria when it comes to ranking an experience.
While dixit_sanjeev’s 4 puts a ding in IT Equipment Xpress’ overall feedback rating (4.6 stars over the past 12 months) it doesn’t seem to impact the other metric shown: positive, neutral, or negative feedback. It looks like 4 and 5 stars both count as positive feedback. That makes sense since it’s a 5 point scale - but why bother? Why not give shopping only three options? Heck, make them go one way or another - give them just two: good or bad.
