XO Cool

January 30th, 2008 ·

Yesterday we got our laptop and I had a chance to play with it a bit last night. Pretty dang cool! It’s not the fastest thing in the world (I think it’s not quite as slow as my TiVo but it’s close) and it certainly has a keyboard made for child-sized hands - […]

Email Support, Not Provided

January 25th, 2008 ·

I’m having problems with my TiVoHD unit (second unit, same problems). After tinkering with things I finally decided to go to TiVo for help. While I was bummed to see that they don’t offer support via email (”at this time”), it was nice of them to at least come out and say it. […]

Computerworld’s Rock Stars

January 23rd, 2008 ·

There’s a new Computerworld article out about Rock Star Coders. Several folks at Viget talked with Mary Brandel, the author of the article, about the concept of rock star coders. Our connection to the “phenomenon” is that Emily used the term in one of our recent creative job postings. Overall the article […]

Progress of Technology

December 21st, 2007 ·

We don’t watch tons of TV in our family, but we don’t totally avoid it either.  As a technology guy I probably have more TV related toys than I can justify considering the amount of TV we watch.
My daughter, who is three years old, gets to watch a couple of shows here or there.  In […]

Kids and Technology

August 28th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I’m pretty handy when it comes to technology but I also understand that there’s no way to stay ahead of kids. My grandparents never figured out how to set the clock on their VCR. I’m sure when I’m a grandparent my grandkids will know how to do things that I’ll have no idea […]

Content Aware Image Resizing

August 27th, 2007 ·

This is pretty dang cool. I’m not how often people would actually manually resize an image by dragging its corner but certainly the ability to dynamically resize an image for different devices would be very useful.
It will also be interesting to see if people react to how these photos are altered. There is […]

The Future of TV

August 14th, 2007 · 1 Comment

No, I don’t know the future of TV - but I have some ideas.  When Verizon came out to my house a couple of years ago to hook up my FiOS service I think I started to get a hint of the future.  Fiber optics all the way to my house!  I did cringe a […]

Apple not taking over the world yet

August 11th, 2007 ·

I expected Apple to be large and in charge here at BarCamp. While I’ve seen a handful of iPhones and certainly there’s plenty of black, white, and brushed aluminum Macs here I’ve also spotted quite a few Windows-based laptops.
The strangest site? A brand new MacBook Pro loaded up with and running Windows Vista.

BarCamp DC

August 10th, 2007 · 1 Comment

A bunch of us from Viget Labs will be down at BarCamp DC tomorrow.  It’s an unconference - which just means there’s no set agenda of talks - the people who go to the unconference also present.  It’s part of the larger BarCamp scene.
It’s shaping up to be a great event and it should be […]
